Nuclear Mechanical Valve Planner I-III

Support preventive and corrective maintenance, plant modifications, and outage execution by developing technically rigorous mechanical valve work packages for a commercial nuclear facility. This planner will turn field scope into executable instructions that align craft, materials, permits, clearances, quality controls, and regulatory requirements.

The best fit is a commercial nuclear planner who has personally planned valve maintenance, performed plant walkdowns, prepared weld records, and used Passport and Primavera. The level will be matched to the candidate's education and depth of commercial nuclear experience.

Pay Rate: $50-$87.50 per hour, depending on approved level and experience

Per Diem: $216 per day, seven days per week for the first 12 months, for eligible contractors whose permanent residence is more than 100 miles from the plant. This is approximately $78,840 in non-taxed per diem when eligible for a full year. Mobilization/demobilization assistance is available for eligible contractors living more than 500 miles from the plant, subject to the assignment terms.

Responsibilities

• Plan valve-focused preventive and corrective maintenance, surveillance, and modification work for mechanical and contract maintenance organizations.
• Build detailed work instructions that define scope, sequencing, craft steps, procedures, drawings, equipment, parts, tools, and materials.
• Perform field walkdowns to validate boundaries, access, configuration, interferences, hazards, and package constructability.
• Select materials and support purchasing or procurement recommendations needed for work-package execution.
• Coordinate with Work Management, Operations, Engineering, Supply, Radiation Protection, Quality, and maintenance craft to resolve package issues.
• Prepare or route supporting documents such as radiation work permits, plant-barrier impairments, welding/grinding permits, fire impairments, operability impact statements, ALARA support tasks, quality hold/witness points, freeze-seal documentation, and temporary leak-repair documentation.
• Verify work instructions comply with station procedures, applicable ASME and NEC requirements, vendor recommendations, and other codes and standards.
• Support required 10 CFR 50.59 screening or evaluation and maintain the technical rigor expected in a regulated nuclear environment.
• Develop, revise, and review maintenance procedures that support safe and efficient execution.
• Participate in work-control and scheduling meetings, craft-interface discussions, clearance-order reviews, maintenance-risk reviews, planner peer reviews, and system-interaction reviews.
• Incorporate field and post-job feedback to improve package quality and future execution.

Qualifications

• Direct commercial nuclear power plant experience at the level shown below.
• Hands-on valve maintenance planning experience; general planning experience without valves is not sufficient.
• Experience developing executable nuclear maintenance work packages and conducting field walkdowns.
• Passport and Primavera experience.
• Experience preparing weld records and coordinating valve-related welding or repair documentation.
• Working knowledge of nuclear work controls, clearances, radiation protection interfaces, quality controls, and applicable station procedures.
• Ability to work onsite in Richland, including a 6x12 outage schedule.
• Ability to meet nuclear-site access requirements and obtain the required site badge.
• U.S. citizenship.

Level I: Bachelor's degree in business plus 4+ years of commercial nuclear plant experience, or 6+ years of commercial nuclear power plant experience.

Level II: Bachelor's degree in business plus 6+ years of commercial nuclear plant experience, or 8+ years of commercial nuclear power plant experience.

Level III: Bachelor's degree in business plus 8+ years of commercial nuclear plant experience, or 10+ years of commercial nuclear power plant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP certification
• Prior refueling-outage valve planning experience
• Experience with ASME Code work, quality hold points, operability reviews, and 10 CFR 50.59 screening support
• Recent nuclear-site access with a clean badging and fitness-for-duty history

Washington employees accrue at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, equal to approximately 52 hours or 6.5 eight-hour days over a 2,080-hour work year. Accrued leave is available for use after 90 calendar days of employment, and at least 40 unused hours carry over to the next accrual year, subject to applicable law and CRG policy.
