Automotive Technical Instructor
This role supports vehicle launches by turning early engineering and manufacturing information into practical training for assembly-plant teams. The instructor will travel to OEM facilities, teach technicians and production personnel how to diagnose and correct complex vehicle and electrical-system issues, and provide hands-on launch support.
The strongest candidate combines advanced automotive electrical diagnostics with real classroom or plant-floor instruction experience. They can read early engineering schematics and harness prints, use scan tools and digital multimeters confidently, explain difficult systems clearly, and operate independently in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
Location: Candidate may be based near Spring Hill, Tennessee, or Bowling Green, Kentucky
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week; launch support may require 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift and occasional weekends
Work Setting: Onsite at OEM assembly plants with approximately 75% travel across the United States, Canada, and Mexico

Responsibilities
- Deliver onsite technical and manufacturing-process training at OEM vehicle assembly plants.
- Coach plant process, repair, and production personnel on vehicle systems, subsystems, assembly processes, and diagnostic methods.
- Demonstrate efficient ways to diagnose and correct vehicle-assembly, electrical-system, and subsystem deficiencies.
- Perform root-cause analysis to identify the source of assembly and vehicle issues.
- Create and revise training materials covering vehicle assembly, electrical harness manufacturing, vehicle electrical architectures, schematics, and diagnostic procedures.
- Translate pre-launch engineering documents, work-in-process service information, engineering schematics, math data, and manufacturing reports into clear instructor-led content.
- Serve as the link between product engineering, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, and general assembly during launch activity.
- Share lessons learned and training materials across multiple plants and projects.
- Identify future training needs and provide timely training and launch-support reports.
- Participate in launch meetings and validate course content with engineering teams, component suppliers, and vendors before Start of Regular Production.
Qualifications
- At least four years of experience as an automotive instructional designer, training developer, automotive instructor, manufacturing instructor, or closely related technical trainer.
- Associate degree or certificate in Automotive Technology, engineering, or a related discipline; a high school diploma plus at least eight years of directly relevant experience may be accepted instead.
- Advanced working knowledge of automotive systems and electrical diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret early engineering electrical schematics and OEM supplier electrical-harness prints.
- Hands-on skill with digital multimeters, OEM diagnostic scan tools, and related automotive diagnostic equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional training materials from pre-launch or incomplete engineering documentation.
- Strong one-on-one and group presentation skills in classroom and plant-floor settings.
- Working knowledge of OEM manufacturing tracking, reporting, and dynamic vehicle-testing systems.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Flexibility to travel approximately 75% and support varying plant shifts for extended launch periods.
- Ability to work safely in manufacturing areas requiring personal protective equipment and exposure to noise, fumes, fluids, sharp edges, and moving equipment.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and regularly move materials weighing up to 35 pounds, with lifting equipment available for heavier items.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current ASE certifications, especially Electrical/Electronic Systems and advanced diagnostics.
- Automotive technical-assistance-center experience.
- Vehicle launch, pre-production, Start of Regular Production, or assembly-plant support experience.
- Valid passport and experience traveling to automotive facilities in the United States, Canada, or Mexico.
- Bilingual communication skills.
