Position Summary
The Construction Manager (CM) plays a critical leadership role in the implementation of capital projects affecting the power block of a nuclear facility. Responsible for ensuring construction activities are completed safely, on time, and within budget, this position serves as a key liaison between Project Managers and various stakeholders including contractors, craft labor, suppliers, planners, Radiation Protection (RP), and station departments.
This is a boots-on-the-ground role with significant interaction in field environments and requires a high level of initiative, technical knowledge, and leadership capability. Work will involve both office coordination and hands-on presence in active, industrial plant settings—including confined areas, ladder use, and work at heights with appropriate PPE and fall protection.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead construction teams to ensure safe, on-schedule, budget-compliant, and high-quality execution of project scope
- Communicate daily with leadership and stakeholders to provide updates, direction, and receive feedback
- Participate in internal project status meetings and deliver presentations on construction progress, risks, and financial updates
- Conduct detailed analysis and troubleshooting of construction activity challenges
- Identify and implement alternative strategies to accelerate milestone completion and resolve roadblocks
- Perform risk assessments and approve corrective actions and project adjustments
- Provide input during conceptual phases through construction and turnover to optimize construction strategy and sequencing
- Foster collaboration across Operations, Maintenance, and other support departments
- Monitor and ensure capability, readiness, and compliance of construction teams across multiple scopes
- Balance and prioritize resources across competing project needs to ensure timely execution
- Represent the construction function across project teams and interdepartmental efforts
- Maintain resource alignment and resolve cross-functional concerns related to construction execution
- Track performance against cost and schedule baselines; analyze data and initiate corrective actions as necessary
- Maintain regular reporting to project leadership regarding manpower, performance, and schedule status
- Hold teams accountable for adherence to procedures and standards; enforce corrective actions where needed
- Ensure project success through tactical actions related to quality, budget, and schedule
Education & Experience Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Project Management (preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in a nuclear power plant environment
Desired:
Required Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience managing services of large-scale outside contractors
- Deep knowledge of construction strategy, cost control, scheduling, and subcontract management
- Familiarity with project planning at the tactical level; understanding of operations, maintenance, construction startup, and subcontract oversight
- Experience in executing and planning work in radiological areas within commercial nuclear environments
- Demonstrated success managing complex, high-risk, large-scale projects
- Background in system replacements and upgrades at commercial nuclear power facilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
