Job Title: Computer Support Technician

Location: Richland, WA

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4 days x 10 hours

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Computer Support Technician provides critical support for workstation deployment projects, including inventory management, imaging new devices, deploying equipment to users, and processing end-of-life computers for e-waste disposal. This role ensures prompt, courteous service to users and resolves technical issues related to software applications, inventory, and deployments.

In addition to deployment responsibilities, this role assists the IS Solutions Center, maintaining IT systems, troubleshooting technical problems, and supporting users in a collaborative office environment. The position requires handling, moving, and configuring computers and peripherals across various locations within the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

Deployment and Inventory Management:

  • Maintain software and license inventory.
  • Deploy and configure software and hardware for users, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Image customer computers and laptops for deployment and re-image returned laptops for reuse.
  • Manage the fleet of loaner laptops, including loading software, setting up email, and preparing systems for checkout.


Technical Support:

  • Act as the primary interface with customers to determine hardware and software configuration needs.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance, including resolving issues related to hardware, software, compatibility conflicts, connectivity, and network security.
  • Maintain network and system security, including password support, access management, and folder permissions.
  • Document customer issues, manage service request tickets from inception to closure, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Assist users with application installation and provide guidance on requesting software and tracking licenses.


System Administration:

  • Provide administration and support for Remote Secure Access, including tracking approvals, managing tokens, and assisting with user setup and troubleshooting.
  • Support IS analysts in system management tasks and maintain the integrity of IT systems.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and security protocols for all IT systems and processes.


Collaboration and Emergency Response:

  • Attend training sessions and team meetings to stay updated on system changes and company policies.
  • Participate in the Emergency Response Team (ERO) and provide IT support during the biennial refueling outage.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments, leveraging strong communication skills to ensure seamless IT operations.


Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Option 1: Associate’s degree in a computer-related field.
  • Option 2: Associate’s degree in an unrelated field plus 1 year of experience in Information Systems/Help Desk.
  • Option 3: High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of directly related IT experience.


Desired Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.


Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Fundamental knowledge of:
  • Client/server infrastructure and local area networks.
  • Computer/help desk support.
  • Desktop computer architectures.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to competently apply IT knowledge.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, for interacting with customers, vendors, and teams.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and document procedures effectively.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to the Columbia Generating Station.


Desired:

  • Exceptional customer service skills and IT problem-solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Server, and Microsoft Applications (Office, Internet Explorer, SCCM, SCOM).
  • TCP/IP networking and client-server computing.
  • IT telecommunications environments, including telephone circuits, data communications, and plant cabling concepts.
  • Familiarity with regulatory environments, particularly within the nuclear industry.
