Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist

Location: Tewksbury, MA and Andover, MA

Duration: 12-month contract with strong potential to extend

Pay Rate: $30–33/hr

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (flexible start/end times available)

Work Week: 40 hrs/week (5/40 schedule)

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen required

Primary Worksite (≈75%)

Tewksbury, MA

Secondary Worksite (≈25%)

Andover, MA

Travel between sites occurs on structured, scheduled days, with flexibility required based on operational priorities.

Position Overview

The EH&S Specialist supports environmental, health, and safety programs across engineering laboratories, manufacturing operations, and technical workspaces. This role emphasizes environmental compliance and hazardous waste management, while also supporting broader occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs.

You will work closely with engineering teams, manufacturing personnel, and site leadership to maintain regulatory compliance and improve safety performance. This role combines hands-on field work, compliance oversight, and program support in a fast-paced technical environment.

This is a strong opportunity for an early-career EH&S professional to gain experience in regulated manufacturing and engineering environments.

Primary Responsibilities

Environmental Compliance and Hazardous Waste

  • Manage hazardous and universal waste accumulation areas
  • Perform routine inspections of waste storage areas
  • Ensure proper labeling, container management, and documentation
  • Coordinate waste shipments and vendor pickups
  • Maintain hazardous waste logs and manifests
  • Support environmental compliance reporting
  • Assist with regulatory documentation and audits
  • Support sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives

Safety Program Support

  • Support development and maintenance of EH&S programs including:
  • Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • PPE assessments
  • Contractor safety programs
  • Ergonomics programs
  • Risk assessments
  • Conduct routine safety inspections across labs and manufacturing areas
  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
  • Track safety corrective actions to closure
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with behavioral-based safety programs

Industrial Hygiene and Exposure Monitoring

  • Conduct noise surveys and exposure monitoring
  • Support ventilation evaluations
  • Assist with industrial hygiene sampling
  • Support respiratory protection program including fit testing
  • Evaluate chemical hazards and exposure risks
  • Maintain monitoring documentation and records

Incident Investigation and Risk Reduction

  • Support incident investigations and near-miss reviews
  • Participate in root cause analysis
  • Document findings and corrective actions
  • Track injury reduction initiatives
  • Analyze safety performance trends

Training and Employee Support

  • Deliver EH&S training for employees and contractors
  • Support Hazard Communication training
  • Support new employee safety onboarding
  • Assist with emergency response training
  • Provide day-to-day safety guidance to employees

Ergonomics and Workplace Assessments

  • Perform ergonomic assessments in:
  • Manufacturing environments
  • Engineering laboratories
  • Office environments
  • Recommend improvements to reduce risk of injury

Regulatory Compliance

  • Interpret and apply regulations and standards including:
  • OSHA regulations
  • ANSI standards
  • NIOSH guidance
  • Environmental regulations
  • Support compliance audits and inspections
  • Maintain EH&S documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Environmental Health & Safety or related field preferred)
  • 1–2 years of EH&S experience
  • Experience with hazardous waste management
  • Experience performing EH&S inspections
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Experience supporting environmental compliance activities
  • Experience working in industrial or manufacturing environments
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently

  • Experience with EH&S databases or reporting systems
  • Experience supporting sustainability initiatives
  • Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring
  • Experience in engineering or manufacturing environments
