Software Integration Engineer II – Radar Systems (Secret Clearance Required)
Location: Newport News, VA (Onsite – Shipyard Environment)
Schedule: 40–60 hrs/week (based on test schedule and ship construction timelines)
Clearance: Active Secret required at start
Citizenship: U.S. Citizen required

Overview
We are hiring a Software Integration Engineer to support advanced naval radar systems as part of a high-impact defense program.
This role supports the SPY-6 Family of Radars, one of the U.S. Navy’s most advanced radar platforms designed for next-generation threat detection, tracking, and missile defense. You will be working directly in a shipyard environment, integrating and testing software systems that operate in real-world mission conditions.
This is not a lab-only role. You will be on the ground where systems are installed, tested, and validated on active ship platforms.
What You’ll Do
- Support software integration and testing for radar systems in a live shipyard environment
- Execute test procedures, scripts, and validation plans to ensure system performance
- Troubleshoot software and hardware interface issues during integration events
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve system-level issues
- Document test results, integration steps, and troubleshooting actions for traceability
- Assist with system deployment, field installations, and live test events
- Support high-tempo integration schedules tied to ship construction timelines
What You Bring
- 2+ years of experience in software integration, testing, or development
- Experience with C++ or Java
- Experience with scripting (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Strong Linux command line experience
- Experience debugging software using tools such as GDB or Wireshark
- Familiarity with version control tools (Git, Jira, ClearCase)
- Ability to troubleshoot system-level issues across software and hardware
Preferred Experience
- Radar systems, sensor systems, or embedded systems
- Real-time systems or signal processing
- Agile development environments
- DevOps tools or CI/CD pipelines
- MATLAB or data analysis tools
- Hardware/software integration experience
Work Environment
- Onsite in an active shipyard (Newport News Shipbuilding)
- Small, highly collaborative team environment
- High visibility role, often the primary software resource onsite
- Work schedules vary based on ship construction and testing phases
- Can include extended hours, shift work, and weekend support
