Position Title: Maintenance Engineer - High-Volume Milk Processing

Location: Platteville CO

Reports To: Maintenance Manager and Plant Manager

Job Summary: The Production Engineer will work closely with department engineers to develop, execute, and manage preventative maintenance programs, emergency work order solutions, employee training, and ensure accountability for work performed. The primary responsibility is to sustain high-volume milk processing and packaging requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and Report: Ensure all plant personnel monitor and report deviations from Food Safety and Food Quality (HACCP & SQF) programs.
  • Equipment Reliability: Manage production equipment reliability to achieve both short-term and long-term Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) goals.
  • Improvement Schemes: Devise and implement improvement schemes that drive productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Equipment Design and Maintenance: Participate in the design, modification, and maintenance of all existing and new equipment in the plant.
  • Training: Develop and execute training sessions for operators and maintenance technicians.
  • SQF Support: Develop, train, implement, and ensure compliance with the SQF program.
  • Safety Compliance: Support the Industrial Safety Engineer in compliance with safety programs.

Other Required Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration: Work with engineers to ensure all equipment is maintained to support production processes.
  • Records Maintenance: Maintain work and materials records and manage shop parts inventories.
  • Off-Hours Support: Be available for off-hours repairs and assistance.
  • Project Support: Collaborate on department needs and projects.
  • Division Support: Support other business divisions and plant operations as needed.
  • Feedback: Provide daily feedback to maintenance techs and contribute to year-end performance reviews.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the department manager.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; vocational school training preferred.
  • Supervisory Experience: Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Fabrication and welding skills highly desired; solid electrical troubleshooting skills required.
  • PLC Navigation: Ability to navigate PLC programs for troubleshooting (programming experience not required).
  • Maintenance Experience: Five years or more of hands-on maintenance experience in a food processing facility, preferably with fluid processing experience.
  • Facility Maintenance: Experience with ammonia refrigeration and high-pressure steam generation is highly desirable.
  • Manuals Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret electrical and maintenance manuals.
  • Problem-Solving: High level of reasoning ability to solve practical problems where standardization may not exist.
  • PM Procedures: Knowledge of preventative maintenance (PM) procedures and standard repair procedures for industrial equipment.
  • Independence: Ability to work independently and as a self-starter.
  • Communication: Proficiency in communicating via text, email, and voice; frequent computer use required.
  • On-Call Coverage: Must be available to provide on-call coverage.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility: Must regularly stand, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl around equipment.
  • Lifting: May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure: Possible exposure to moving mechanical parts and varying temperature conditions, often in wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Noise: Noise level requires hearing protection.
  • Heights: Must be comfortable working at heights.
