JOB DESCRIPTION: Avionics Manager




Position Overview:

The Avionics Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the avionics department, including troubleshooting, repair, installation, and inspection of aircraft avionics systems. This role ensures all avionics work complies with FAA regulations, company policies, and quality standards. The Avionics Manager is a hands-on leader who supports technical excellence, team development, and efficient workflow.


Key Responsibilities

 

Operational Oversight:

·      Manage and schedule all avionics work orders, upgrades, inspections, and installations.

·      Ensure all avionics activities are performed in accordance with FAA regulations and company procedures.

·      Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and project management teams to meet timelines and customer expectations.

·      Provide quotes for installations, parts, and inspections.

·      Assist in estimating labor and materials for quotes and project planning.


Team Leadership:

·      Supervise and support a team of avionics technicians, providing mentorship, training, and performance feedback.

·      Conduct regular team meetings to promote communication, safety awareness, and continuous improvement.

·      Foster a positive, accountable, and results-driven team culture.


Compliance and Documentation:

·      Ensure proper documentation of all repairs, installations, and inspections in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

·      Maintain and audit avionics records, ensuring traceability and accuracy.

·      Support internal audits and FAA inspections as needed.


  

Quality and Safety:

·      Enforce safety standards and best practices across the department.

·      Review and verify the quality of completed avionics work.

·      Take corrective actions to resolve any issues or non-conformances.


Customer and Project Support:

·      Communicate with clients and project managers regarding avionics scope, progress, and technical concerns.

·      Resolve technical problems promptly to avoid schedule delays.

 

Qualifications:

·      FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) License or Repairman Certificate preferred.

·      Knowledge of Citation aircraft preferred.

·      5+ years of experience in aircraft avionics installation, troubleshooting, and repair.

·      Prior leadership or supervisory experience in an avionics environment.

·      Strong working knowledge of FARs (Especially Part 145), avionics systems (e.g., Garmin, Honeywell), wiring diagrams and schematics

·      Excellent organizational and communication skills.

·      Proficient with MS Office and maintenance tracking systems (e.g., Corridor).

·      Must be a problem-solver with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.

·      A customer-focused mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities.


Work Environment:

·      Aircraft hangar and shop setting with moderate physical activity.

·      Occasional travel may be required for training or off-site support


Physical Demands:

·      Ability to lift 50lbs

·      Sitting/standing/stooping/moving around for long periods of time.

·      Frequent work in small spaces, extreme temperatures, and heights above six feet, noisy environments and flying.

·      Operating hours

o  Monday – Thursday, 7AM to 6PM

o  May be requested to work unscheduled overtime.
