Job Summary
The Pilot Plant Operations Technician supports the construction, operation, and maintenance of small-scale chemical and petroleum processes. This role involves hands-on work with mechanical and electrical systems, assisting in pilot plant operations, and ensuring accurate documentation and safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in building, operating, and maintaining chemical pilot plant processes
- Work with piping, tubing, and AC/DC-powered instruments and equipment
- Support operation of complex chemical and petroleum processes at a pilot scale
- Perform analytical testing, including gas chromatography
- Maintain and clean work areas; manage parts and equipment inventory
- Create requisitions and track materials using internal systems (e.g., PMS)
- Document operations, data, and logbooks; communicate updates across shifts
- Assist with welding, cutting, wiring, and equipment installation
- Install and remove insulation as needed
- Maintain equipment and vehicles
- Deliver materials and packages across the site
- Identify and help implement process improvements
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant hands-on experience
- Experience working with mechanical and electrical systems
- Proficient with hand tools and power tools
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Word)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
- Experience with chemical processes (e.g., distillation)
- Familiarity with pilot plant or refinery operations
Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Must be flexible to support 24/7 shift operations
- Overtime may be required
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Work performed in plant, lab, and high-bay environments
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders
- Work may be indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Large worksite (1,500-acre facility); walking between locations required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted; over 50 lbs with assistance
- Must wear steel-toe boots
- Dress code: collared shirt and jeans
- Must have a valid driver’s license and pass MVR check
- Position is classified as safety-sensitive
