Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to support the design, integration, and operation of piping and process systems. The role requires expertise in system design to ASME B31.3 standards, drafting detailed drawings, and performing design calculations. This individual will participate in the full lifecycle of engineered systems, from concept through installation, and provide technical oversight during operations in a pilot plant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design piping systems in accordance with ASME B31.3 standards.
- Draft and update detailed engineering drawings using CAD and Microsoft Visio.
- Perform routine and dynamic engineering calculations.
- Specify and construct Bills of Materials (BOMs) for designed systems.
- Oversee integration of processes from design through installation.
- Update and maintain unit P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Specify relevant instrumentation for system operations.
- Assist and supervise pilot plant operations and ongoing plant design.
- Collaborate across electrical and mechanical disciplines to ensure integrated system performance.
- Support technical evaluations, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and thermal simulations (preferred).
- Write clear, concise technical documentation and reports.
- Work shift schedules as part of a 24/7 operation, including occasional weekend work.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in a related industry.
- Experience with demonstration-scale or pilot plant operations is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Visio, and SolidWorks is required.
- Familiarity with ANSYS or other FEA software is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of salt works and associated processing systems is a plus.
- Ability to multitask effectively and manage projects from concept to execution.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
Physical & Additional Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance (approximately 5% of the time).
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and move between indoor and outdoor work sites.
- Required to work in plant lab and high bay environments.
- Must own steel toe safety shoes.
- Must submit to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
- Dress code is business casual.
Work Schedule
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Must be available for shift work on a rotating 24/7 schedule, including some weekends as required.
