Process Engineer

Overview: The Process Engineer will play a key role in the plant manufacturing engineering team, focusing on the interconnection and integration of proposed systems, including the specification of purpose-built process skids provided by external vendors (e.g., GEA). This role is crucial in managing capital projects that span processing, packaging, and utilities, ensuring that all projects meet business needs and comply with established standards for safety, food quality, and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering and vendor teams to specify and integrate process systems, ensuring seamless interconnection and functionality.
  • Lead and manage capital projects, including new construction and modifications to existing equipment and infrastructure, from concept to execution.
  • Coordinate project efforts between contractors and the manufacturing facility, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Manage project capital, including requisitions and capital authorization requests, and oversee project spending.
  • Ensure that business requirements are accurately translated into equipment and process specifications, supporting plant operations, new product launches, and system upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring alignment and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare technical proposals, feasibility studies, and specifications that align with global standards.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for packaging and processing departments, including layout, material handling, and utility requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to maintenance teams and support continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in engineering systems design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing projects across multiple plants is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of high-speed packaging systems design and integrated automation and controls technology.
  • Familiarity with dairy process engineering and relevant standards (e.g., PMO, 3A).
  • Proficiency in project management, including budgeting, risk analysis, and resource management.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to quickly assess, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours during installation or project-critical periods.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards (e.g., OSHA, FDA) and methodologies such as TQM and Six Sigma is preferred.
