Construction Manager

A commercial nuclear power facility is seeking a field-focused Construction Manager to lead implementation of major capital projects affecting the power block. This person will drive safe, high-quality execution against cost and schedule baselines while coordinating contractors, craft, planners, suppliers, Radiation Protection, Operations, Maintenance, Design, and project leadership.

The strongest candidate has recent commercial nuclear power plant experience managing large outside contractors, radiological work, outages, and system replacements or upgrades. This is not a desk-only project role: most of the workday is spent with construction personnel in an active heavy-industrial plant.

Location: Richland, Washington

Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week; back shift or night shift may be required during outage implementation

Work Setting: Hybrid, with 75-98 percent of time onsite or in the field and limited remote flexibility when project work allows

Per Diem: Eligible contractors who maintain a permanent residence more than 100 miles from the Richland worksite may receive $216 per day, seven days per week, for the first 12 months. This is approximately $78,840 in non-taxed per diem income over a full eligible year. Per diem is intended to cover housing and food; eligibility and tax treatment are confirmed during onboarding. Mobilization and demobilization assistance is also available for eligible contractors who live more than 500 miles from the plant.

Responsibilities

• Lead construction teams and outside contractors through safe, secure, cost-effective execution of major nuclear capital projects.
• Establish daily field priorities and hold supervisors, general superintendents, general foremen, foremen, and construction team members accountable for performance and procedural compliance.
• Coordinate directly with craft labor, suppliers, work-order planners, Health Physics, Radiation Protection, Operations, Maintenance, Design, Design Authority, project controls, and station personnel.
• Provide construction input from conceptual design through planning, procurement, implementation, testing, turnover, and project completion.
• Review work-package readiness, labor and resource plans, construction sequencing, schedule logic, cost performance, quality requirements, dose considerations, and field constraints.
• Monitor project performance against safety, scope, technical, schedule, cost, dose, and quality baselines and initiate corrective actions when work moves off plan.
• Perform complex analysis of construction problems, risk, resource conflicts, and milestone threats; develop practical recovery strategies and approve corrective priorities within assigned authority.
• Balance construction resources across competing project needs and secure support from organizations outside the project team.
• Present clear project status, risks, manpower needs, financial issues, and recommended actions to project and station leadership.
• Foster strong collaboration across project and station departments while resolving complex field and organizational issues.
• Support system testing, turnover, and return to station ownership on schedule and within budget.
• Perform authorized business travel when approved by the technical representative.
• Work in office and active plant settings, traverse tight areas, climb ladders, and use required fall protection while working at heights.

Qualifications

• At least five years of experience in a commercial nuclear power plant environment.
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing work in radiological areas.
• Proven success managing large-scale outside contractors and multidisciplinary construction teams.
• Experience with commercial nuclear power plant system replacements, modifications, or upgrades.
• Strong working knowledge of construction methods, cost control, scheduling, subcontract administration, work planning, project startup, testing, and turnover.
• Ability to manage complex, high-risk, large-scale work while protecting nuclear safety, industrial safety, quality, dose, schedule, and cost commitments.
• Ability to work primarily onsite, support outage back shifts or nights when required, and meet the physical demands of an operating industrial plant.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, project management, or a related discipline.
• Recent experience leading major modifications, equipment replacements, outage projects, or power-block work at an operating commercial nuclear plant.
• BWR experience and direct coordination with Operations, Maintenance, Radiation Protection, engineering, work management, and project controls.
• Experience using Primavera P6 or comparable scheduling tools and reading cost and schedule performance reports.
