Technical Instructor

We are seeking an Automotive Technical Instructor / Training and Development Consultant to develop and deliver manufacturing-process and vehicle-systems training for OEM assembly plants across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role combines advanced automotive electrical diagnosis, root-cause analysis, technical-content development, and hands-on plant support during vehicle launches.

The strongest candidate is an experienced automotive instructor or training developer who can diagnose complex electrical and networked vehicle systems, translate early engineering information into practical training, and confidently teach plant process and repair teams. Candidates must live within approximately one hour of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and be able to travel up to 75%.

Location: Greater Detroit, Michigan; must live within approximately one hour of DTW Airport

Schedule: 40 hours per week; launch support may require first, second, or third shift and occasional weekends

Work Setting: Remote/home-based when not traveling, with up to 75% travel to automotive assembly plants

Pay Rate: $38-$42/hr ; overtime paid at 1.5x when authorized

Michigan paid sick time accrues at one hour for every 30 hours worked, equal to approximately 8.7 eight-hour days over a 2,080-hour work year, subject to applicable law and company policy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver on-site technical training and launch support at OEM vehicle assembly plants in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
• Coach plant process and repair personnel on vehicle architecture, interconnected systems, subsystems, assembly processes, and efficient repair methods.
• Demonstrate effective diagnosis and correction of vehicle-assembly and electrical-system deficiencies using schematics, scan tools, digital multimeters, and related test equipment.
• Perform root-cause analysis to identify the source of assembly, harness, communication-network, and vehicle-system concerns.
• Serve as a training liaison among product engineering, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, vendors, launch teams, and general assembly.
• Research, design, and develop professional training materials from pre-launch engineering documents, schematics, harness prints, work-in-process service information, engineering math data, and manufacturing reports.
• Validate manufacturing-process and vehicle electrical-subsystem content before Start of Regular Production and share lessons learned across plant programs.
• Identify future plant training needs, participate in launch meetings, and provide clear training and support reports to program leadership.
• Work independently in classroom and plant environments while following all PPE and site-safety requirements.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience as an automotive instructional designer, training developer, automotive instructor, manufacturing instructor, or closely related technical trainer.
• Advanced working knowledge of automotive systems, electrical diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and vehicle network communication.
• Ability to read and interpret early engineering electrical schematics and OEM supplier wiring-harness prints.
• Hands-on ability with digital multimeters, OEM diagnostic scan tools, and other automotive diagnostic equipment.
• Experience developing professional technical-training materials from incomplete or pre-launch source documents.
• Demonstrated presentation skills in one-on-one, classroom, and plant-floor settings.
• Knowledge of OEM manufacturing tracking, reporting, and dynamic vehicle-testing systems.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Associate degree or certificate in Automotive Technology, engineering, or a related discipline; a high school diploma plus eight years of directly relevant instructional-development or instructor experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
• United States citizenship and U.S.-person status are required.
• Ability to travel up to 75%, work first, second, or third shift for extended launch periods, and support occasional weekends.
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, use a computer and presentation equipment, and regularly move materials weighing up to 35 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current ASE certifications.
• Automotive technical assistance center experience.
• Direct OEM assembly-plant, vehicle-launch, end-of-line repair, electrical-harness, or manufacturing-training experience.
• Valid passport and readiness for travel to Canada and Mexico.
• Bilingual communication skills.
