Job Title: Mechanical Work Planner – Nuclear Projects

Location: Richland WA

Schedule: 4/10s (Four 10-hour days per week)

Job Summary

The Mechanical Work Planner is responsible for planning and preparing mechanical work packages to support both large- and small-scale nuclear plant projects. These packages will guide internal mechanical teams and contract maintenance partners in executing safe, compliant, and efficient work. The planner ensures that all efforts align with plant policies, industry codes, and regulatory standards through close coordination with Work Management, Supply Chain, Operations, and Engineering teams.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop mechanical work instructions and documentation for maintenance and modification projects.
  • Select or recommend procurement of all materials required to execute work packages.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to gather data, validate scope, and identify work environment constraints.
  • Define all required procedures, drawings, equipment, and tools necessary for planned tasks.
  • Prepare and submit supporting documentation including:
  • Out-of-Service (OOS) tags
  • Radiation Work Permits (RWP)
  • Barrier impairments
  • Welding/grinding permits
  • Fire impairments
  • Operability statements
  • ALARA planning documents
  • Regulatory/code compliance docs
  • Freeze seal and temporary leak repair forms
  • Quality hold/witness points
  • Ensure all instructions comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NSPs, NSWPs, ASME).
  • Review and approve packages to ensure safety, technical accuracy, and appropriate 10CFR50.59 screening or evaluations.
  • Revise or author maintenance procedures to support ongoing compliance with vendor recommendations, technical standards, and internal guidelines.
  • Manage other planners or contractors as needed to support detailed package development.
  • Actively participate in:
  • Work control and scheduling meetings
  • Craft feedback sessions
  • Contract requisition reviews
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance risk assessments
  • Clearance order reviews and planner peer reviews
  • System interaction reviews

Education & Experience Requirements

Required (One of the following combinations):

  • Bachelor’s degree + 6 years of technical experience (maintenance, engineering, operations, or maintenance planning)
  • OR Associate degree + 8 years of technical experience
  • OR High school diploma/GED + in-grade apprenticeship/technical training + 6 years of experience
  • OR High school diploma/GED + 10 years of technical experience

Note: College-level education may substitute year-for-year for technical experience.

Desired:

  • 2+ years of experience in a nuclear environment (preferred but not required)

  • Ability to obtain Planner I qualification
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Power plant work management and planning systems
  • ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) practices
  • Plant safety regulations
  • Nuclear security operations and requirements
