Human Resources Manager

Location: Geneva, NY

Compensation: $90,000–$105,000 salary + up to 7.5% annual bonus tied to plant goals

Employment Type: Full-time, exempt

Reports To: Plant Manager

Direct Reports: Payroll, HR Administrator, Receptionist

Schedule and Flexibility Expectations- Primarily day shift, typically 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday

  • Primarily day shift, Monday–Friday
  • Some extended hours and occasional 2nd shift presence required, especially during Pack
  • Flexibility is essential to support employees, payroll deadlines, benefits issues, and seasonal demands

Role Overview

You will serve as the on-site HR leader for a manufacturing and warehouse operation with both year-round and seasonal employees. This is a hands-on HR Manager role focused on execution, visibility, and trust. You will own day-to-day HR operations, ensure legal and policy compliance, support leaders and employees through change, and help stabilize and strengthen culture at the location.

This role requires comfort in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment where employee needs, seasonal hiring, and compliance priorities can shift quickly. You must be able to stay organized, calm, and firm while leading with empathy.

Location and Workforce Snapshot

  • Mostly warehouse operation year-round
  • Seasonal production for cabbage cutting and sauerkraut
  • Pack runs roughly Labor Day through Thanksgiving
  • Resumes around mid-May
  • Approximately 170 regular employees
  • Additional 45–60 seasonal employees during Pack
  • Non-union facility

Key Responsibilities

HR Leadership and Compliance

  • Implement and administer company HR policies and procedures at the plant level
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Maintain accurate employee files, documentation, and records
  • Own Affirmative Action and required HR compliance programs
  • Serve as the primary HR advisor to plant leadership

Employee Relations and Culture

  • Act as a visible, trusted HR presence on the production and warehouse floor
  • Handle employee relations issues with professionalism, discretion, and consistency
  • De-escalate conflict and address sensitive situations with empathy and firmness
  • Conduct investigations, corrective actions, and terminations when needed
  • Support culture rebuilding after leadership turnover

Recruiting, Hiring, and Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for hourly and salaried roles
  • Manage seasonal hiring surges during Pack
  • Conduct interviews, selection, and onboarding
  • Deliver new hire orientation and required training

Benefits, Payroll, and Administration

  • Administer employee benefits at the plant level
  • Oversee payroll coordination and HR administration through direct reports
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of HR and payroll processes
  • Coordinate employee evaluations, wage surveys, and exit interviews

Safety and Workers’ Compensation

  • Support plant safety initiatives
  • Administer workers’ compensation programs
  • Coordinate with insurance providers and medical partners as needed

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Experience working in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment
  • Strong HR Generalist foundation with exposure to employee relations, recruiting, compliance, and administration
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail
  • Comfortable learning new systems and processes
  • Ability to manage frequent interruptions while keeping the HR department running smoothly
  • Thick skin and emotional resilience
  • Ability to lead during high-stress, high-volume seasonal periods
  • Demonstrated tenure and stability in prior roles

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Prior HR leadership experience or readiness to step into a first HR Manager role
  • Spanish language skills
  • Experience supporting seasonal or high-turnover workforces

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a purely strategic or corporate HR role
  • Not suited for candidates whose background is primarily government, education, or highly professional office environments
  • Not a low-interaction desk role
