Job Description: Outside Territory Sales Representative – Houston, TX
Location: Houston metro area (100% remote; field territory)
Compensation: Base salary $60,000-$75,000 + commission
Field Sales Ratio: ~75% or more time selling out in the field
Reporting to: Sales leadership / Regional Sales Manager
Role Overview
You will act as a trusted field-sales professional for the physical security industry. You are not a desk seller firing off cold emails from LinkedIn and ZoomInfo. You’re out in the territory, face-to-face, building relationships, driving long-cycle deals (6+ months), thriving in a changing, dynamic environment.
Compensation & Growth Trajectory

Year 1: Full comp for a successful rep = approximately $75k-$90k (base + commission) depending on base salary.

Year 2: With some client base built under you, expected comp = approximately $100k-$125k.

Commission structure:
- Year 1: 8% of profit on accounts you win.
- Year 2: 4% of profit on accounts you win.
- After Year 2: If no significant growth or changes to the account are achieved, the account transitions to the Account Management team and you will no longer receive commissions on it.
- This structure encourages actively bringing in new accounts and driving growth rather than resting on a few large wins.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel your assigned territory in Houston and surrounding areas to meet prospective clients in person (clients, endpoints, decision-makers).
- Educate customers on your company’s physical security products and services.
- Identify customer pain points, shape solutions, negotiate contracts and terms.
- Set sales goals, meet quotas, forecast sales pipeline, report activity in the CRM.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships; stay visible, responsive, and proactive.
- Present products/services at customer sites, trade shows, conferences when required.
- Maintain organized records of sales activity, opportunities, status updates.
- Operate with a self-starting attitude, comfortable with ambiguity, able to pivot in a chaotic, dynamic selling environment.
Required Qualifications & Traits
- Proven experience in B2B field sales, preferably selling into physical security, security systems integration, access control, surveillance, intruder alarms, or related industry.
- Comfortable with long sales cycles (6 months or longer) and selling value rather than commodity.
- High work ethic, “will-not-fail” mindset; self-motivated and able to thrive under minimal oversight.
- Able to think on your feet, adapt tactics, leverage multiple selling techniques (in-person, consultative, strategic, technical).
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with technology/equipment in the physical security space (access control, surveillance, sensors, etc.) is a strong plus.
- Ability to travel within territory regularly; being out with clients, walking sites, standing/ walking during sales meetings as needed.
- Organized, detail-oriented, able to manage pipeline and CRM activity.
- Comfortable working remotely and owning your schedule in the field.
Preferred Industry Background
- Physical security, security systems integrator, access control, surveillance, alarms.
- Infrastructure/security for industrial sites, manufacturing, energy, utilities, large-scale facilities (adds credibility).
- Experience selling to facility managers, security directors, industrial operations leadership.
