Automotive Technician
Location: San Antonio
Schedule: 8-hour shifts; must be open to first, second and third shifts (24/7 program)
Dress Code: Uniform provided; steel-toe shoes required
Position Overview
The Automotive Technician will perform a variety of mechanical, diagnostic, and maintenance duties on engines, stands, and related automotive systems. This includes following written and verbal test/inspection instructions, performing tune-ups and component replacements, and troubleshooting performance issues. The role requires working in a potentially hazardous environment while adhering to safety standards and maintaining a clean work area.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow written and verbal test and inspection instructions.
- Adjust valves manually or via computer as described in test procedures.
- Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and project leaders regarding tests.
- Prepare, extract, and label specimens per test procedures.
- Perform routine engine and stand maintenance.
- Conduct engine tune-ups, fluid changes, transmission removals, cylinder head removals, tire replacements, fuel tank removals/cleaning, and injector replacements.
- Perform stand maintenance, test engine/pump installations and removals, pump removals/disassembly.
- Use diagnostic tools (scanners, voltage meters, computer systems) to troubleshoot poor engine/stand performance.
- Perform fabrication and plumbing duties.
- Maintain a clean work environment and comply with all safety standards and regulations.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of automotive experience required.
- Strong knowledge of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages).
- Ability to recognize automotive engines, fluids, accessories, and their basic functions.
- Proficiency using computers for data entry and diagnostics.
- Ability to use and interpret engine manuals, test instructions, and schematics.
- Ability to identify poor engine/stand performance and seek assistance as needed.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted; heavier with assistance.
- Must follow and adhere to all safety requirements and practices.
- Must be able to work independently with limited supervision while effectively communicating with others.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
Additional Requirements
- Steel-toe safety shoes required.
- Must pass a valid driver’s license/MVR check.
- Position is considered safety-sensitive.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
